History of Potter's House Mission

Founded in 1993, Potter’s House Mission (PHM) has served as a place of refuge, restoration, and opportunity for women and families experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia. For more than 30 years, PHM has provided a safe “home” where individuals can regain stability, access supportive services, and rebuild their lives with dignity.

In response to evolving community needs, PHM expanded its mission to address the growing crisis of elder homelessness. Today, through the Distinguished Women 60+ Program, we provide supportive housing and aging-centered services designed to help older women stabilize, reconnect to essential resources, and safely age in place.

To date, PHM has supported more than 184 families in securing permanent housing and has distributed hundreds of Thanksgiving baskets and thousands of toys and school supplies to families in West and Southwest Philadelphia. Beyond housing placement, PHM remains committed to restoring dignity and self-worth by offering life-skills development, social services, and individualized support that foster resilience, confidence, and long-term independence.

Through arts engagement, wellness workshops, community gatherings, and enrichment activities, PHM continues to create spaces where residents feel connected, valued, and empowered.

Potter’s House Mission remains a light in the community we serve—strengthening lives, restoring dignity, and building pathways to stability for generations to come.
